A man in Texas who was originally arrested for assault recently had his charges elevated to murder after his father, whom he allegedly beat, died from his injuries.

Son Kills His Father in Texas

On April 15, just after 10 p.m., police were called to a home in San Carlos, TX, to conduct a welfare check on an elderly man.

When they arrived, officers found 86-year-old Francisco Coronado in the backyard injured in an apparent attack. He appeared disoriented and was bleeding from his head, nose, and mouth.

Coronado Charged with Assault

Coronado Jr., who fled the scene before officers arrived, was later arrested on April 16. This was when he confessed to attacking his father, brutally beating him in his backyard.

Hospital staff discovered several major injuries on 86-year-old Coronado Sr., including head trauma, a broken nose, broken jaw, and broken cheekbone.

The son was booked to the Hidalgo County Jail on charges of injury to an elderly person with intent to cause serious bodily injury. His bond was set at $500,000.

From Assault to Murder

It wasn't until April 23 when Coronado Sr. was rushed to hospice care, later dying to his injuries. Autopsy later revealed that the cause of death was indeed the blunt force trauma he sustained after his son attacked him.

The assault charges originally brought towards Coronado Jr. were then raised to murder, and his bond was raised to $1,000,000.
