Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton Launches Investigation Into Kellogg’s Cereal
They might be great, but is Kellogg's cereal really healthy for Texans?
That's the question that the Texas Attorney General is asking when it comes to Kellogg's and the company's claims that their cereal is really healthy. And is it possible that Kellogg's is violating the state's consumer protection laws.
In a press release late last week, Attorney General Ken Paxton and his office claimed that Kellogg's advertises its cereals like Apple Jacks, Froot Loops, and Frosted Flakes as "healthy". But Paxton claims that those cereals contain artificial food colorings. Paxton's office says that artificial food colorings "have been linked to hyperactivity, obesity, cancer and other health problems".
Texas vs Kellogg's In Fight Over Food Colorings
In Paxton's press release, he says that Kellogg's had announced that it would remove artificial food dyes along with the preservative BHT from its products. However, they have only done so in Canada and Europe.
Paxton said that part of fighting for the future of children and their health is putting an end to "deceptive practices".
“A critical part of fighting for our children’s future is putting an end to companies’ deceptive practices that are aimed at misleading parents and families about the health of food products,” said Attorney General Paxton. “Artificial food colorings have been shown to have disastrous impacts on health, and in no world should foods that include these dyes be advertised as ‘healthy.’ There will be accountability for any company, including Kellogg’s, that unlawfully makes misrepresentations about its food and contributes to a broken health system that has made Americans less healthy.”
A Focus on Healthy Foods in Texas and America
With the election of President Trump and RFK Jr. in the cabinent there has been a focus lately on what is in our foods that Americans eat. Even the Texas Legislature is tackling some issues geared towards "making Texas healthy again".
