Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued a veto of SB 3, the ban on all THC in Texas on Sunday night. The move by Governor Abbott drew applause from many and swift rebuke from the Lt. Governor, Dan Patrick, shortly after the veto became public.

On Monday, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick held a press conference where he slammed the Governor of Texas for the veto. He even made one claim over and over again. That this was about more than just this Senate Bill. That instead, Texas Governor Greg Abbott was now in favor of legalizing recreational marijuana.

Does Texas Governor Greg Abbott Support Recreational Marijuana?

At the very beginning of Dan Patrick's press conference, he told reporters of the veto and Abbott's statement about the veto that, "The governor of the state of Texas wants to legalize recreational marijuana in Texas. That's the headline, folks, because that's what his proclamation does".

The Lt. Governor went on to say that there was no way to regulate THC shops, even though the Governor suggested doing it the way the TABC regulates liquor sales. Over and over again during the press conference the Lt. Governor claimed that Governor Abbott supported recreational marijuana. So does he?

The short answer is no. Texas Governor Greg Abbott does not support legalizing recreational marijuana in Texas. And as it stands right now, and even if it's regulated, recreational marijuana is not legal in Texas. There is an easy to test this theory. Go purchase pot in Colorado and when your arrive in Texas, let DPS check your vehicle. It won't end well for you.

THC Goes To a Special Session

Governor Abbott wants lawmakers to regulate and do what they can to make sure kids can't buy these legal low dose THC and hemp products. It's important to remember that product with less than 0.3% THC isn't marijuana and that is what is legal today. The Lt. Governor wants to ban all amounts of THC.

The special session will begin on July 21.
