Permanent Daylight Saving Time Might Be Coming To Texas
Do you hate changing your clocks twice a year? Tired of having to adjust to time changes? Texas lawmakers believe they have the solution, and it's heading to Governor Greg Abbott's desk.
Permanent Daylight Saving Time, aka, Texas Time
House Bill 1393 by Representative Will Metcalf is heading to Texas Governor Greg Abbott's desk after the Texas Senate voted late last week to approve of the measure. The legislation would establish Daylight Saving Time (DST) year-round, if the federal government approves.
Even if Governor Abbott signs the legislation, Texas must get Congressional authorization to stay on DST due to the Uniform Time Act of 1996. According to the law, states can opt-out of Daylight Saving Time and stay on Standard Time, as Arizona and Hawaii do.

According to The Texan News, Senator Paul Bettencourt said that this bill will have numerous benefits for Texans.
Sen. Paul Bettencourt (R-Houston) laid out HB 1393 on the Senate floor, stating, “It's time for Texas time,” referring to the bill’s declaration that this new form of time observance would be dubbed “Texas Time.”
“The bill will provide numerous benefits to Texans,” Bettencourt added, referencing Sen. Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) vocal support for such a change on the federal level when he stated that “Congress has the authority to end this outdated and harmful practice.”
Will Congress Approve Texas' Plan?
Texas has proposed doing away with the time change in the past, but has not gotten approval to switch. With President Trump in the White House, Texas Republicans are hoping that he will back the plan.
