Texas ICE Arrest: Man with Fake ID Charged with Abusing Wife
A man in Midland was recently placed into custody for abusing his wife. He was then detained by ICE after failing to produce a legitimate U.S. ID.
The Arrest of "Erick Rodriguez"
According to reports from Yourbasin.com, Midland PD received a call from a father who requested a welfare check on his daughter. He feared that her husband was physically abusing her.
As officers were dispatched to the home, they noticed visible bruises on the woman's face along with notable swelling. She reportedly felt nervous and hesitant to discuss what happened with her husband nearby.
Once it was just her and the officers, she revealed the truth. It turns out that her husband, 25-year-old Erick Eduardo Velazco-Cortez, became physically abusive after an argument the two had about another woman.
Allegedly, Velazco-Cortez was caught attempting to meet a woman at a nearby store. When his wife confronted him about it at home, she claimed he pulled her from the vehicle by her hair before throwing her to the ground while hitting her.
Reports also say that he sexually assaulted her as well in their home, along with the physical abuse.
As officers were questioning her, she stated she would like to press charges against her husband. After Velazco-Cortez was confronted by the cops and asked to produce an ID, he gave them one that stated his name was "Erick Rodriguez" out of Chihuahua, Mexico.
Officers quickly discovered the ID was fake and, after finding out his real name, learned that he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest and removal from the country.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was notified, and Velazco-Cortez was detained.
He was temporarily sent to the Midland County Jail on charges of assault bodily injury family violence, sexual assault, and failure to identify as a fugitive with false info, according to NewsWest9.
