The Texas judicial system has made history following a recent ruling where the first woman was officially labeled an SVP, or sexually violent predator.

According to a Facebook post from the Comal County Criminal District Attorney's Office, this woman was arrested for allegedly manipulating and sexually assaulting a pair of minors.

The Judge of the 466th District Court, Stephanie Bascon, presided over the final ruling.

Who is Desiree Hamm?

37-year-old Desiree Hamm, although imprisoned in Texas, is a resident of California who was convicted of numerous sexually violent offenses in the Lone Star State.

It all began back in 2009 when Hamm, who was 22 at the time, entered into an online relationship with two teenage girls from Texas. Hamm immediately began her manipulations as she entered into a grooming phase with the girls, engaging them in role playing games which eventually turned sexual.

Hamm then would monitor the girls through their webcams and over the phone, eventually driving a wedge between them and their parents by contriving false sexual allegations against mom and dad.

During this time, she also secretly mailed the girls various "gifts" like cell phones, computers, and even a variety of pills, according to the Comal County Facebook post.

After a few months, Hamm then sent a separate adult woman whom she manipulated as well to go pick up the girls and bring them to California. The girls were then taken from their home and traveled to California, sometimes in the trunk of the car to avoid suspicion.

After the parents noticed the girls were missing, they found Hamm's phone number on cellphone records. After questioning her on the phone, Hamm lied to them, saying she had no idea where they were.

For one month, the girls were under the physical control of Hamm in California. She reportedly engaged in physical and psychological abuse with them, and even branded them to match a tattoo she had.

What Happened to Hamm After her Arrest?

Eventually, Hamm was caught and arrested thanks to a tracking device from authorities. She pled guilty in 2011 and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.

Just recently, after 15 years served, Hamm was granted early release. But, during the current trial, the judge declared her a sexually violent predator. This was due to her intentional manipulation and dominance over the teenagers and the accomplice. Hamm was also diagnosed with multiple mental health conditions and was expected to commit future acts of sexual violence down the road.

Even in prison, Hamm engaged with various pen-pals with whom she engaged in role play games once more. She also continued to downplay her actions from 2009, even blaming the victims for what happened.

Hamm will be transferred to the Texas Civil Commitment Office and will be committed to a program that will monitor her progress and determine if her risk of sexual re-offense is still active.

What Is A Day Like In Texas Prisons? A View From Both Sides Of The Bars

Have you ever wondered what life inside a Texas prison is really like? I asked friends who are correction officers and folks who have volunteered at jails. I also asked former inmates, and browsed forums and articles with current and former inmates. Put all together, it paints what I hope is a fairly accurate picture of daily prison life in Texas.
