The Horrific Death of an Infant

In a tragic crime that a seasoned officer stated was the worst thing he's seen in 30 years, a 13-month-old child was found dead after enduring over 24 hours of physical abuse and torture.

Blaine Keith Milam, who was 18 at the time of the infant's death in 2008, was living with his fiancée, Jessica Carson, in a Texas trailer home.

Carson, who was also 18 in 2008, had a 13-month-old child of which Milam was not the biological father.

One day, Milam made a 9-1-1 call to report that he had found the deceased child when he came home. When police arrived, what they found was straight out of a horror movie.

The child showed many visible, severe injuries, including skull fractures, broken ribs, internal bleeding under her scalp, a lacerated liver, and popped blood vessels on her neck that are signs of being strangled. She also had a broken arm and leg.

A Faulty Alibi

At first, Milam had told investigators that both he and Carson left the child alone for about an hour before coming home to see she was dead. However, when questioned individually, they each admitted that they believed that the child was possessed by a demon and in need of an exorcism.

It was also revealed during a later court trial that Milam had physically assaulted and beaten the child for 30 hours before calling the police.

Death Sentence for Milam

For her role in her daughter's horrific death, Carson was found guilty of capital murder and was sentenced to life in prison without parole. She is currently serving her sentence at an all-female prison near Gatesville, TX.

Milam, who was also found guilty of capital murder in 2010, was sentenced to death, earning the title of youngest person on death row in the country at the time.

Milam's Defense Against Execution

Blaine Milam's defense attorney argued that certain evidence from alleged bite marks on the child were unsubstantial. It was also mentioned that Milam was intellectually disabled, having only finished schooling through the 4th grade, and therefore was exempt from the death penalty.

It was also argued that Carson was the one who instigated the attacks on her child and tried to convince him that her child needed an exorcism, not Milam.

The court of appeals rejected these arguments and proceeded with placing Milam on death row.

So, what do you think? Should Blaine Keith Milam be put to death for his involvement in the death of this 13-month-old child, or should he remain in prison for life due to not meeting the requirements for the death penalty in this case?
