Three Fugitives Caught At Texas Border Over Super Bowl Weekend
Three fugitives were arrested over the Super Bowl weekend who all had outstanding felony warrants for charges involving either child sex crimes, injuries against children, or injuries against the elderly.
Child Sex Crimes Along Border
On February 7, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Juarez-Lincoln Bridge in Laredo, Texas, sent 64-year-old Rito Bueno, a U.S. citizen, to secondary examination. An agent was immediately suspicious when they noticed Bueno fit the description for a possible wanted person.
After taking Bueno's biometric identification via fingerprints and facial recognition, it was discovered that Bueno had an active warrant for his arrest out of Bexar County for aggravated sexual assault of a child.
Bueno was taken to the Webb County jail to await adjudication.
The second arrest along the border took place one day later on February 8 at the Del Rio International Bridge. 19-year-old Jose Kaleb Juarez was sent to secondary examination where he, too, was discovered to have an active arrest warrant.
This time, it was for continuous sexual abuse of a child out of the Ward County Sheriff's Office.
The Third Major Arrest Along Texas Border
The third most notable arrest that recently happened along the Texas-Mexico border was actually on February 8—Super Bowl Sunday.
This was when 22-year-old Anthony Magana Mendoza, a U.S. citizen, was immediately secured when he piqued the interest of border agents as a possible match for a wanted person. Sure enough, Mendoza's biometric information was an exact match for an arrest warrant out of Hidalgo County.
Mendoza's felony warrant was for "alleged assault/injury to a child, elderly, or disabled individual," according to the CBP release, and was then turned over to the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office to await adjudication.
