Texas border agents have recently apprehended two convicted sex offenders and one fugitive wanted for sexual assault along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Texas Sexual Assault Fugitive Caught

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recently apprehended a man wanted out of Austin for an alleged sexual crime after he attempted access through the Progreso international Bridge Port of Entry.

On July 14, CBP officers were alerted when 19-year-old Roberto Medina was sent to secondary inspection. After biometric scanning, they discovered that Medina had an outstanding felony warrant for sexual assault from the Austin Police Department.

Medina was immediately turned over to Hidalgo County sheriff's deputies to be held in jail until his trial.

Law enforcement often uses the National Crime Information Center to assist in detaining wanted individuals.

This massive database is centralized and able to be accessed by departments all over the state to help arrest individuals wanted for a variety of crimes like homicide, money laundering, robbery, and even child sex abuse.

Border Arrest of Two Convicted Sex Offenders

On the same day that Medina was caught, Texas border officers also arrested two undocumented immigrants who were both convicted sex offenders.

39-year-old Mateo Pablo-Martin from Guatemala was previously convicted in February of 2018 for molesting a child under 18 years of age. His sentence was 170 days in jail and 30 months probation.

The other man, 45-year-old David Antonio Varcenas-Aguilar, of Mexico, was arrested in 2009 and charged with sexual assault of a child. He was then sentenced to 12 years in prison as a result.

Both men were taken into custody and underwent processing and prosecution, as per CBP customs.
