Texas Border Agents Catch Multiple Fugitives Wanted for Child Sexual Assault
Multiple fugitives wanted for sexual assault of a child were recently caught along the Texas border.
Sexual Assault Felonies Along Texas Border
In two separate instances, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers detained wanted men with felony warrants for aggravated sexual assault of a child.
The first instance on Thursday, August 21, came out of the Del Rio Port of Entry when agents sent 31-year-old U.S. citizen Victor Morales to secondary inspection.
Biometric verification revealed Morales had an outstanding felony warrant out of White Settlement, Texas, for aggravated sexual assault of a child. Morales had an additional warrant out of Tarrant County for drug possession.
Del Rio Port Director Liliana Flores praised the border agents involved in the arrest:
Our frontline CBP officers continue to maintain their vigilance and late this week apprehended a traveler wanted on two separate felony warrants for sex and drug-related charges.
Border agents turned Morales over to the Del Rio Police Department to await his court appearance.
Another Wanted Felon Along Texas Border
The second instance of a wanted felon apprehended along the Texas border also took place on Thursday, August 21.
This was when 26-year-old Isaias Hernandez, a U.S. citizen, was escorted to secondary inspection after attempting to gain entry into the country.
Hernandez was scanned via biometric identification, and officers discovered an outstanding felony warrant out of Cook County, Illinois, for aggravated sexual assault of a child.
CBP agents turned Hernandez over to the Maverick County Sheriff's Office to await proceedings.
How Does Biometric Scanning Work?
Law enforcement often deploys the use of biometric verification when identifying potential criminals. This works by taking a fingerprint or some other form of verification and running it through the National Crime Information Center (NCIC).
NCIC is an online database accessible by law enforcement agencies across the country that includes information on outstanding warrants for wanted individuals.
Having an outstanding warrant does not declare one guilty. In America, defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
