‘I Can Already Smell the Blood': Lubbock Man Threatens to Shoot up Elementary School
A man in Lubbock was arrested following a five-hour SWAT standoff at his home. He was taken into custody after making remarks on social media about committing a mass shooting at a nearby elementary school.
Who is Stephen Furr?
On Feb. 3, 29-year-old Stephen Patrick Furr received a visit from the SWAT team after his social media account was tipped off to the FBI. Furr was seen sending out posts from his account that promoted school shooting, even going so far as to say that he conveniently lived nearby a local elementary school.
Everything Lubbock included some of Furr's alleged posts which include the following:
- "Thinking about going out and buying a gun."
- "When in Texas, shoot [expletive] [expletive] am I right? Good thing I live next to an elementary school.”
- "Will be fun to legally shoot up a school, I can already smell the blood."
Along with the posts, he also allegedly included photos from the mass shooting that occurred in Christchurch, New Zealand, killing 51 and injuring 89 more.
When FBI agents arrived at his home, they found Furr in a state described as "disheveled and unkempt," according to a complaint reported by Everything Lubbock.
Furr reportedly began shouting profanities at the agents, stating that he will not talk to them until President Trump confirmed their identities. When officers contacted Furr's family, some of them said Furr threatened them as well.
Furr had his first court appearance on Wednesday, Feb. 5. If convicted, he will face up to five years in prison.
