Thursday on The Chad Hasty Show, Dr. Cindy Schwartz joined the program to talk about M.D. Anderson Cancer Center's partnership with Stripes Convenience Stores in the fight against childhood cancer.

The month-long campaign is called Stripes Stores Celebrates Tomorrows, and has a goal of raising more than $1 million through nearly 650 Stripes store locations. The drive is currently in progress, and will continue through mid-October. 100 percent of donations will go directly to research and assisting kids and their families who are going through the processes.

For every dollar donated, customers will receive a paper pinup to sign and display, as well as coupons for free in-store items, including a free 12 oz. Slush Monkey and a buy-one-get-one-free Smokin' Barrel Peanuts snack.

Last year, the Stripes Stores Celebrates Tomorrows Campaign raised more than 1.4 million dollars. Money goes directly to childhood cancer research, and helps families with children being treated at Anderson.

People don't realize that cancer affects children too. And it turns out that it is the greatest cause of children dying other than accidents...And over 10,000 children will be diagnosed with cancer each year in this country.

Dr. Schwartz is head of the Division of Pediatrics at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, and is one of the nation's most respected experts in childhood cancer.
