Snyder Police Officer in Serious but Stable Condition

Wounded Snyder Police Officer Darrell Campbell is breathing on his own after a week and a half of being on a ventilator. Doctors say his condition has now changed to serious but stable, an improvement from the critical condition he was in.

Campbell’s partner Lee Ortiz returned to work yesterday after being placed on leave for killing Campbell’s attacker. Ortiz shot and killed Dwayne Birmingham after Birmingham shot Campbell in the head. It is protocol to place an officer on leave in situations where a perpetrator has been shot.

Campbell was airlifted to UMC in Lubbock where he underwent surgery for the bullet wound. The 41 year old Campbell has a wife and several children.
