Shepard Smith Shames Media for Ebola Fear-Mongering
While an outbreak of the Ebola Virus persists in West Africa, two Dallas nurses are being treated after contracting the virus while treating Thomas Eric Duncan.
On Wednesday, October 15, Fox News’ Shepard Smith laid out the facts and shamed media outlets who were seen as fear-mongering. Shepard also said mid-term elections are playing a role in media coverage.
There were brief scares in Amarillo and Lubbock in the days following Dallas’ second confirmed Ebola contraction when Baptist St. Anthony’s in Amarillo and University Medical Center in Lubbock initiated emergency containment protocols in separate incidents. Both patients were determined not to have been exposed to the virus.
Although the containment protocols were largely seen as appropriate to quash any chance of Ebola spreading, some are critical of the media’s early coverage.
