Sen. Hughes: Racism Shouldn’t Be Taught in Texas Schools [Interview]
On Thursday evening's edition of The Chad Hasty Show, District 1 Senator Bryan Hughes (R-Tyler) joined the show with an update on news from the 87th Texas Legislature, including Constitutional Carry, a proposed ban critical race theory, and much more.
When asked by Hasty about the status of a ban on teaching critical race theory in Texas schools, Hughes said:
We're Americans, and we teach American history, warts and all. We teach about our failures, about the lessons we've learned. But what we don't teach, is that our country is inherently racist, or that some people, because of the color of their skin, are superior or inferior. Now that's racism, we don't want to teach that in America. We want to teach that everyone, no matter the color of your skin, no matter where you were born, no matter how much money you have, if you work hard and play by the rules, you can succeed, you can do better, and that's for everyone. So yes sir, that's an important bill, and you're going to see that come through the Senate here in the next couple of days.
