I don't have to remind anyone that bugs are found a-plenty in the Lone Star State, but did you know that--just like allergies and flowers--there are seasonal pests that are more common in certain parts of the year?

Messy Pests in Texas!

We have Natran Green Pest Control to thank for their insight on four, six, and eight-legged critters running rampant throughout the seasons here in Texas.

They begin by saying that--surprise, surprise--Texas is big! The sheer size of the state accounts for a large quantity of all sorts of bugs that sting, bite, chirp, and spook... sometimes all at once.

What are seasonal pests?

Seasonal pests refer to specific rodents, insects, and bugs that become more active during certain seasons of the year. Their lifecycles are so accustomed to, say, warmer weather than others, that their survival has grown dependent on higher or lower temps, rainy seasons, dry environments, etc.

Because Texas has such a diverse climate, the state spans multiple zones such as humid coastal or desert. Take Houston for example. Due to the high levels of humidity, mosquitoes are more common in warmer months and in the Spring. However, looking at west Texas, you have dry conditions that attract other pests like centipedes and scorpions.

Common Spring Pests in Texas include the following:

  • Termites
  • Mosquitoes
  • Ants
  • Wasps and bees

As temps increase, insects like ants may venture more into homes to find food for the colony. Also, Springtime means blooming flowers, perfect for attracting bees of all kind.

Natran also includes common pests for the other seasons of the year in Texas:

  • Summer
    • Cockroaches
    • Fleas and ticks
    • Spiders
    • Fire Ants
  • Fall
    • Rodents
    • Stink Bugs
    • Ladybugs
    • Spiders
  • Winter
    • Raccoons
    • Squirrels
    • Bed Bugs
    • Silverfish
