San Antonio Special Ed Teacher Arrested After Dropping Drugs in School Hallway
It's rare when police bust someone for drugs on a school campus and it ISN'T a student... Well, that was the case when a San Antonio teacher accidentally dropped a small bag of drugs while at work... Oops.
Arrest of Daniel Anthony Gonzalez
Daniel Anthony Gonzalez, a 38-year-old Northside Independent School District special education teacher was arrested earlier this month and charged with felony drug possession and endangering a child after accidentally dropping a small bag of methamphetamine in an elementary school hallway.
Surveillance footage revealed that, as Gonzalez took his key from his pocket to unlock a classroom door, a matchbox fell out of his pocket. Inside the small box was the baggie of meth and a straw.
After the matchbox was reported to police, they conducted an in-depth investigation where they confirmed that it was indeed methamphetamine. Gonzalez was arrested on campus that day and booked into the Bexar County Jail.
Although he was released on bond the following day, NISD officials placed Gonzalez on administrative leave following his arrest. He filed his resignation at this time as well.
NISD stated that this was a singular occurrence and there were no other faculty or staff involved. A spokesperson from the district told My San Antonio that they can confirm the "drug-related charge was in no way connected to the school, any other staff member, or any student."
Gonzalez was an employee of NISD since 2012 where he started as an Instructional Assistant before becoming a Special Education teacher at Mary Hull Elementary the following year in 2013.
