According to many researchers and scientists, the current guidelines for dietary salt consumption should be changed. Many say that the normal American salt use has no risk, and governmental recommendations for low sodium intake may even be dangerous.

Andrew Mente, a professor and researcher who contributed to a study published last year by the New England Journal of Medicine, is one of the experts calling for the government to lift it's guidelines on salt.

Mente said,

There is no longer any valid basis for the current salt guidelines. So why are we still scaring people about salt?
