Romantic Shipment of Roses and Meth Stopped at Texas Border
Nothing sets the mood more than a beautiful bouquet of roses. The deep red sets the tone for passion, and the enticing smell paves the way for romance. What people don't often know, is that they're missing the final piece for a truly romantic evening: the meth.
Somehow, this truck driver attempting to gain access into the U.S. got the memo as he was recently caught attempting to smuggle nearly 900 pounds of methamphetamine hidden within a shipment of roses.
Roses and Meth Along Texas Border
On August 12 at the Pharr International Bridge Port of Entry, officers stopped a suspicious-looking vehicle for secondary inspection.
After deploying a canine team to sniff out the situation, they discovered 154 packages of a tightly-wrapped substance they learned was meth hidden within a large shipment of the flowers.
The total weight of the illegal narcotics came out to 857.59 pounds with an estimated street value of $7,660,000.
Both the narcotics shipment and the vehicle were seized as Homeland Security Investigations opened a criminal investigation.
I just know someone is at home getting nervous as their date is about to arrive and their elaborate plan relies on that shipment being delivered. Sorry, friend, no meth and roses for you today.
Police Assault at Texas Border
This odd seizure along the border came just a few days after a 26-year-old U.S. citizen arriving from Mexico refused to comply with officers as they ordered him to surrender his cell phone.
After allegedly becoming physical with police, the man was sent to a detention cell to await future decisions.
Charges against the man so far seem to be resisting arrest, refusing to comply, and impeding officers' inspection.
