So far this spring, rain and severe weather have been scarce in the Lubbock area.    But on Lubbock’s First News on KFYO, KAMC chief meteorologist Ron Roberts said that could change as early as next week.

Roberts told KFYO the Lubbock area probably won’t have tornadoes like the ones in Joplin or Alabama, but severe weather is possible.

“Can we have tornadoes next week?  As you look at the data, and next week’s dry line positions…yes it looks like next week we’ll start getting dryline thunderstorms,” Roberts said.  “Can they produce tornadoes?  Absolutely.  Large hail?  Absolutely.”

Roberts said the biggest weather story for ag producers will be about cotton  that’s clobbered by thunderstorms.
