The pastor of a large church in Dallas commented on a notable quarterback’s choice to cancel an appearance at the megachurch.

Dr. Robert Jeffress, pastor at First Baptist Dallas, has been in the news for his comments on gays and other religions. Jets backup Quarterback Tim Tebow was scheduled to speak at the church on April 28th, but backed out due to “new information,” according to CBS New York.

CBS quoted Jeffress on Sunday as first thanking his supporters, and saying “I am grateful for men of God like these who are willing to stand up and act like men rather than wimping out when it gets a little controversial and an inconvenient thing to stand for the truth.”

Tebow had faced criticism for agreeing to appear at First Baptist Dallas.
