Thursday on The Chad Hasty Show, District 83 Representative Dustin Burrows (R) joined Chad in the KFYO studio to discuss the controversial meeting between himself, Texas Speaker of the House Dennis Bonnen, and Michael Quinn Sullivan from Empower Texans.

Burrows talked about reasons for delay in commenting on the matter, which includes recordings made by Sullivan during the meeting that have not been made public, as well as his own status in the ongoing investigation by the Texas Rangers.

About the recordings, and the fact the Sullivan has not released them for public consumption, Burrows said,

I join Governor Greg Abbott, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, Speaker Bonnen, the chairman of the state Republican Party calling for the full, unedited, complete, immediate release of the tapes. I've not heard any good reason why they've not been released...I hope they'll come out soon...They need to come out now, I wish they'd come out two weeks ago. You asked about my silence earlier. Quite honestly, I've been very surprised they haven't been out. I really thought they'd come out and I'd have a chance to look at them. You know this conversation happened over sixty days ago. I have an imperfect memory, imperfect recollection of things. I know kind of some generalities, but if people want to talk about specifics, let's get them out there, lets have a full discussion of them if that's what people want to have.

During interview Burrows told Hasty that there was no physical list of Republicans that he and Bonnen wanted targeted. Instead, Burrows said he brought up the roll call vote of the ban on tax-payer funded lobbying legislation that failed in the Texas House. The names Burrows said he read off, in alphabetical order, were the names of Republicans who voted against the measure. Burrows also claimed the conversation was not planned and was off the cuff.

Burrows also told Hasty that while the Texas Rangers were currently investigating the meeting, an investigation Burrows welcomed, he had not been contacted yet by the Rangers.

Shortly before appearing on The Chad Hasty Show, Governor Greg Abbott endorsed Burrows for re-election.
