A few weeks ago, State Representative Pat Curry of Waco made headlines after filing a bill that would led to the dismantling of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. The department is a pretty popular one throughout the state and not many Texas Lawmakers were jumping at the opportunity to tear apart the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

But for now it seems the agency is safe.

Earlier this week Representative Curry announced he would not be moving forward with House Bill 4938 which was filed on March 13. According to KSAT News, the legislation that was filed was used as a way to bring commissioners to the "table to discuss deer breeding industry".

KSAT also reported that Curry got a lot of pushback on his bill.

Curry, who was the sole author of the bill, said he received major pushback after the bill was first filed.

“I have also received dozens of complaints from constituents, landowners and deer breeders across Texas who have grave concerns over the proposed regulations, several of which gave very compelling testimony in Austin this session,” Curry also said, in part, in the letter.

A spokesperson for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department told KSAT that the agency is "proud" of its role serving Texans.

So for those who were worried that the Texas Legislature was going to get rid of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, you can rest easy now.
