Thursday on The Chad Hasty Show, District 19 Representative Jodey Arrington joined  the program to discuss the new farm bill passed yesterday and why welfare work requirements were not included, as well as his views on the possibility of a government shutdown over border security.

Describing his relief that a good farm bill was finally passed, Arrington said,

Thank God we got an agreement, and we got a better and brighter future for West Texans and for the [agriculture] economy in these great United States. I'm very pleased with the outcome after two years, lots of hearings, meetings and negotiations...It was worth all of it to get a good farm bill with good policies.

Hasty asked Arrington about whether or not President Trump should be threatening to shut down the federal government over the issue of the border wall and national security. During his reply, Arrington said,

When you're talking about national security and public safety, I think it's absolutely appropriate to be talking about a [government] shutdown...This is an extreme situation where we're having to protect our sovereign border against this tremendous influx, two thousand a week, of people coming here. And many of them, we know, are coming here to do bad things.
