Rainbrow Trout To Be Stocked In Texas Neighborhood Fishing Ponds And Waterways

Fall is here in Texas and that means cooler weather, outdoor events, pumpkin patches, hay rides, hunting season, and for those who love to fish, trout season. It may surprise many in Texas that you can catch trout in lakes and neighborhood fishing ponds, but thanks to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, you can.

Across the State of Texas beginning November 23, neighborhood fishing ponds, lakes, and other waterways will start getting stocked with rainbow trout. About 170 total locations will be stocked with various amounts of trout. According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife newsletter, about 337,169 trout will be put into waterways across Texas.

Any age or skill level can enjoy the thrill of catching rainbows, so grab grandma and the kids when you go. These trout are meant to be eaten, so bring something you can use to take your catch home. Those under the age of 17 do not have to have a license to fish. For Trout, there is a daily bag limit of 5, no minimum length.

While no lakes in Lubbock will see trout, locations in Levelland, Midland, Odessa, Big Spring, Canyon, Abilene, Monahans, Wichita Falls and San Angelo will all see trout stocked at area ponds and lakes. So for those in Lubbock, you can spend a half day to a full weekend out trout fishing with family or friends.
