Gone Fishing: These Are Some Of The Best Places To Go Fishing In Texas Right Now
Spring is here and that means warmer temperatures, more sunlight, and more people getting outside. And if your family is like my family, that means more time fishing on some of our great Texas lakes that we have.
One of the great things about Texas? There's no shortage of great fishing spots. Whether its a river, one of our beautiful lakes, or even a neighborhood pond, or even the Gulf coast, you can always find a great place to go fishing.
And the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department makes it even easier to find a great place to fish with their Weekly Fishing Reports. The Weekly Fishing Reports come from people on the ground across Texas and divided into regions.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife website updates each week their fishing report site. Fishing reports are normally updated by Thursday morning and the information is collected by a third party who spoke with fishing guides, marinas, and bait shops.
Lakes in Texas You Should Be Fishing
Here are some examples of lakes across Texas and how they are looking this week.
FAIR. Water slightly stained; 60 degrees. 0.49 feet below pool. The bass bite has been fair flipping soft plastics around reed bases in 1-3 feet of water. The key is to cover water until you find a good stretch that holds multiple bass. It is also important to slow down your retrieve this time of year to trigger these lethargic pre-spawn largemouth. Crappie are fair around main lake boat docks on chartreuse jigs and catfish were fair on cut bait and stink bait around river channel bends. Report provided by the Angelo State Fishing Team.
GOOD. Water slight stain; 62 degrees; 12.96 feet below pool. Crappie are starting to spawn with many catches with minnows and worms. Bass are good. Some days have been very windy from the west. Report by Lake Cisco Rentals.
GOOD. Water normal stain; 57 degrees; 0.27 feet below pool. Water temperature 57 degrees and on the rise with the sunshine in the forecast. Blue catfish are biting fresh shad and cut bait. Hybrids are biting minnows and jigs. Sand bass and black bass can be caught while targeting crappie. Crappie are good on minnows and jigs in shallow water. Catching a lot of females full of eggs. Report by Lake Palo Pinto RV Park.
GREAT. Water stained; 63 degrees; 0.01 feet above pool. Eater catfish are good in baited areas from 10-40 feet deep with Catfish Bubblegum, liver, worms, and punchbait. Drifting natural baits on wind blown flats can produce as well. Bass are good as most have bedded up. Now is the time for novices to look like pros. Crappie have been off and on pushed up shallow one day then out to 24 feet of water the next day. Report by Bradley Doyle, Bradley’s Guide Service. Hybrids are now back to jigging or live bait on flats in 14-33 feet of water. Always wear your life jacket! Report by Mike Cason, Fishical Therapy.
