Police Search for 2 Suspects After Vehicle Theft Leads to Chase
Lubbock authorities are searching for 2 suspects who remain at large after stealing a truck and leading officers on a dangerous car chase through the city.
The incident began Monday, January 4th at about 8:30 a.m. when the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office received a call that a silver F-350 had been stolen in the 8800 block of MLK.
It didn’t take long for deputies to locate the truck and try to initiate a traffic stop. The driver failed to comply and drove away, leading deputies on a chase through Lubbock, at one point running a red light at the intersection of University and 82nd Street.
The truck finally came to a stop in the 8000 block of Avenue N near the Roy Roberts Elementary School and 3 suspects abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot.
2 of the suspects managed to get away but another was found while trying to hide in a nearby backyard. 26-year-old Matthew Charles was arrested and booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center.
Charles faces the following charges, of which he is being held on bonds totaling $34,000:
- Evading in a vehicle
- Evading arrest
- Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle
- Felon in possession of a firearm
- Organized crime
- Reckless Driving
