Tuesday on Lubbock's First News, Nancy Neil of Lubbock Parks and Recreation spoke about upcoming Valentine's events.

The Lubbock Parks and Recreation Department is offering a variety of opportunities for Valentine's fun.

Thursday, there will be a Sweethearts Dance to live country music for those ages 40 and over, at $6/person. This will be held at the Lubbock Senior Center. Call 767-2710 for information.

Friday, there will be a free Valentine Card Workshop from 10 a.m. to noon. at the Rawlings Community Center. Call 767-2704 for information. There will also be an Valentine's Afternoon Dance from 1-3 p.m. on Friday at the Rawlings Community Center for all ages. The event is free for those 50+ years old.

Friday evening from 6-10 p.m., Friday Night Fun will be held at Hodges and Friday Night Fiesta will be held at Maxey, giving parents the chance to drop off the kids, ages 6-12, for a Valentine's night off. Children must be registered by February 13 and cost is $15/child. Contact Hodges at 767-3706 and Maxey at 767-3796. Neil said, "This happens once a month and this one happens to fall on Valentines Day. So what a great place to leave your kids while you and your special person go out... We are excited to give those parents out there the to have a date night on Valentine's."

Finally, there will be a Sweetheart Mixed Doubles Tournament. This will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday, during which teams can sign up to play tennis at the Burgess-Rushing Tennis Center, for $25/couple. The event is limited to 16 teams. Call 767-3727.
