Police Arrest Teen Suspect in Fatal Shooting of 19-Year-Old Woman

A suspect has been arrested in connection to the fatal shooting of a Lubbock woman Friday morning (June 7th).
Seventeen-year-old Detren Ward has been charged with manslaughter, and the woman has been identified as 19-year-old Maria Isabel Cervantes.
Both Cervantes and Ward lived in the home where Cervantes was found, and detectives believe the two were in a relationship.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.

At around 11:35 a.m. Friday morning (June 7th), the Lubbock Police Department received a report of shots fired in the 1600 block of 58th Street.
When officers arrived, they located a woman inside a home with life-threatening injuries. She was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Lubbock Police Department Public Information Officer Tiffany Taylor says investigators with the Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
