Lubbock Police were called to Maxey Park in response to a fight Friday around 2 p.m. A City of Lubbock Marshall also responded and was first on the scene. The Marshall attempted to break up the fight and was assaulted by 17-year-old Donavan Casias.

LPD officers arrived and attempted to take Casias into custody when he turned and struck the officer several times in the face with a closed fist. A second officer arrived and assisted in taking Casias into custody.

Casias was arrested for assault on a peace officer, transported to the Lubbock County Jail and booked in.

The officer was transported to UMC with minor injuries and was later released.

According to KAMC, three witnesses said the fight led to a car chase which ended in a crash. But police reported it was not a chase, but one of the people at the park drove away and crashed within the 3200 block of Peoria Avenue. That person was taken from the scene by EMS.
