New England Patriots File Tampering Charges Against Houston Texans Over Attempted GM Hire
Wednesday afternoon, ESPN's Adam Schefter broke the news that defending Super Bowl champions the New England Patriots filed tampering charges against the Houston Texans over the attempted hire of Patriots Director of Player Personnel Nick Caserio.
The interest in Caserio from the Texans can be dated to last season, when they were denied an interview to potentially hire him as the general manager. The Texans had instead hired Brian Glaine, who was fired the night after the Patriots Super Bowl ring ceremony last week.
The two teams are certainly no stranger to sharing the same personnel. Current Texans head coach Bill O'Brien was part of the Patriots staff from 2007 to 2011. Not to mention current defensive coordinator for the Texans, Romeo Crennel, was the Patriots defensive coordinator during all three Super Bowls that New England won from 2001-2004.
The NFL's anti-tampering policy states: "Any interference by a member club with the employer-employee relationship of another club or any attempt by a club to impermissibly induce a person to seek employment with that club or with the NFL."
