Wednesday on The Chad Hasty Show, U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) joined the broadcast to discuss current events in the nation, including President Elect Donald Trump's cabinet appointees and the initial agenda for the new presidency.

Asked by Hasty for his initial thoughts on Trump's selection of Exxon CEO Rex Tillerson to be Secretary of State, and former Governor of Texas Rick Perry as Secretary of Energy, Cornyn replied, "I couldn't be more excited about these two Texans." Continuing comments about Perry, Cornyn said, "Rick's a great choice, he's run a large state and he's been very successful."

About Tillerson, who has extensive, world-wide business experience in working and negotiating with many different governments, Cornyn said,

I've known him for a long time and always found him to be enormously wise and talented in the way he's handled himself ... Basically he's going to take that private sector experience and put it to work for the American people.

On Trump's selection of Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions to be U.S. Attorney General, Cornyn said,

He's going to restore the rule of law at the Department of Justice, which has become, unfortunately, just a political arm of the White House under Eric Holder and Loretta Lynch.

Hasty and Cornyn also discussed the processes and rough time-lines involved in the repeal of the Affordable Health Care Act, as well as tax reform.

Summing up his outlook for the coming changes under President Trump, Cornyn said,

I think it's going to be a new day in America.
