This is going to be a very busy week for Texas roads and airports. AAA Texas is expecting a record-breaking 3.5 million Texans to travel this week for the Independence Day weekend.

With lower gas prices and many who will enjoy a four-day weekend, AAA expects many to travel to different destinations to celebrate the upcoming holiday. According to a press release from AAA Texas, Texans will join nearly 49 million other Americans in traveling this holiday week and most will travel by car.

Overall, national travel volume for the holiday is expected to rise 4.1% over last year to total nearly 49 million people, with an additional 1.9 million people planning road trips and other vacations to celebrate America’s birthday. For the record-high 41.4 million Americans who will travel by automobile this Independence Day, INRIX, a global mobility analytics company, predicts drivers could face delays as much as four times a normal commute, with Wednesday, July 3 the worst day on the roads. The Independence Day holiday travel period is defined as the five-day period from Wednesday, July 3 to Sunday, July 7.

According to AAA, 3 million Texans will travel by car this week.
