Midland Congressman Mike Conaway in Charge of Russia Investigation
Earlier today (April 6), House Intelligence Committee Chariman Devin Nunes announced he will be temporarily leaving the investigation on Russia involving the 2016 Presidential Election. Nunes stated that Congressman Mike Conaway (R- Midland) will now lead the investigation.
Congressman Conaway is a seven-term Republican from Midland and is also the chair of the House Agriculture Committee.
The move would last while the House Ethics Committee looks into allegations that Nunes discussed classified material following a secret meeting at the White House. Nunes denied the allegations.
ABC News also received a statement from Congressman Nunes, concerning the investigation, "Several left-wing activist groups have filed accusations against me with the Office of Congressional Ethics. The charges are entirely false and politically motivated and are being leveled just as the American people are beginning to learn the truth about the improper unmasking of the identities of U.S. citizens and other abuses of power.
"I will continue to fulfill all my other responsibilities as committee chairman, and I am requesting to speak to the Ethics Committee at the earliest possible opportunity in order to expedite the dismissal of these false claims," said Nunes.
