An area meeting regarding the lesser prairie chicken has been rescheduled due to Monday’s snowy weather.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department rescheduled the meeting in Morton, which is being held to allow discussion on the draft range-wide conservation plan for the lesser prairie chicken.

The rescheduled meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, March 4th in the U.S. Department of Agriculture Service Center, located at 200 West Taylor Avenue in Morton.

The plan represents a multi-state effort to conserve the bird and its habitat, and to address its proposed listing as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service will likely publish a final rule on the status of the chicken in September of 2013.
