Border agents in Texas recently stopped a car from entering the country and discovered half a million dollars in cocaine hidden in the vehicle. But this was a far cry from the largest seizure on record.

Canine Officers Discover the Massive Stash

On January 8 at the Gateway International Bridge in Brownsville, border agents stopped a 2008 Chevrolet driven by a 29-year-old female Mexican citizen. They sent the vehicle to secondary inspection where a specialized canine unit trained in identifying various illegal narcotics was able to catch the scent of cocaine hidden somewhere in the car.

Thanks to the powerful noses of the dog cops, agents were able to locate the packages of the alleged substance totaling 41.27 pounds

This came out to a total estimated street value of $551,041

Brownsville Port Director Tater Ortiz stated that efforts like what happened here along the border help keep our Texas communities safer:

As this seizure clearly illustrates, our frontline CBP officers work with diligence as they perform their duties and their efforts led to this significant narcotics interception.

This Seizure Wasn't Even Close to the Largest Along the Texas Border

If you think that half a million dollars is a lot of money's worth of cocaine (which it is), then just wait until you learn about what happened in Laredo back in August of 2022.

This was when a whopping near $12 million worth of cocaine was discovered hidden inside 1,900 packages of baby wipes.

That's right, almost 1,533 pounds of cocaine was seized that day after border agents busted the failed smuggling attempt in a semi-truck.

It's efforts like these that help keep our streets just a little bit cleaner and drug-free. How 'bout that?
