Mackowiak Says Questions Remain About Bonnen’s Leadership

Republican strategist Matt Mackowiak joined The Chad Hasty Show on Tuesday to share his reaction to the news that Texas House Speaker Dennis Bonnen will not be returning in 2021. Bonnen announced Tuesday morning that he would not seek reelection after more than 30 members of the Texas House called for his resignation following the publication of secretly recorded audio by Michael Quinn Sullivan of Empower Texans.

Bonnen didn't resign on Tuesday, and Mackowiak told KFYO that questions remain about whether Bonnen can remain as Speaker.

Can he lead as Speaker going into a really important election cycle. That's the next question. Can he even remain Speaker for the next 13, 14 months? Can he raise money whatsoever, can he help any incumbents whatsoever? That feels like to me it's not all that sustainable going forward.
