A Lubbock woman has been indicted after it's said she drove herself home after drinking, causing the death of another.

KAMC News reports that in the early morning hours of March 13th, 44-year-old Elisa Bengoa had been drinking at Cheers, located at 3525 34th Street, and decided to drive herself home. She told police later that she had 5 shots and 5 beers.

Just before 4 a.m., Bengoa was involved in a crash in the 4400 block of 34th Street. It's said that she was heading westbound when she struck another vehicle from behind, causing Bengoa to then run into a building. The vehicle she allegedly rear-ended then continued to travel and stopped at the intersection near 34th Street and Salem Avenue.

The driver of that vehicle, 30-year-old Samantha Martinez, was pronounced dead at the scene. Bengoa was transported to University Medical Center with moderate injuries.

Bengoa later told police that didn't remember what she hit and didn't even remember driving. An investigation was performed on the bar by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC), but no charges were ever filed.

Bengoa bonded out of the Lubbock County Detention Center, but was indicted Tuesday, August 23rd by a Lubbock grand jury.
