Lubbock Wasting Taxpayer Dollars Training Police For Other Cities [Interview]
Thursday on The Chad Hasty Show, Brandon Price and Josh Reid from the Lubbock Professional Police Association joined the broadcast to talk about the urgent need to increase pay for officers on the Lubbock Police Department force.
Price and Reid described the pay disparity between officers in in other, even smaller cities in Texas, and Lubbock (which continues to have a much higher crime rate), and the many negative effects of not increasing Lubbock officers' pay, which includes the continual loss of more experienced officers, and wasted taxpayer dollars spent on recruiting and training officers who very quickly leave the force.
Price said:
You have to have experience. Until you have experience, nothing's going to get better. And that's the problem: It's just constant turnover. You're leaking the tax dollars out the back door when we don't retain them, and they're going to other (cities') departments. We're paying for training, ultimately, for other people, or we're wasting training because they want to go do some other job that's out of law enforcement because it's just not worth it to them anymore.
