Lubbock Received a D- in Crime in 2025, Here’s Why
Look, I get it. Where there are more than two people in one area, there is bound to be crime taking place. You may be thinking that because we live in Lubbock where it's nothing but sunshine and rainbows, surely our crime rates aren't that bad.
Well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but Lubbock was slapped with a D- in violent crime for all of 2025. Let's figure out why.
Lubbock is Safer than How Many U.S. Cities??
According to crimegrade.org, Lubbock is safer than a whopping 12% of cities in America...meaning that it's LESS safe than 88% of U.S. cities.
Whether you believe this to be true or not, let's look at the numbers that back this claim. First, the violent crime rate for Lubbock is alleged to be 6.255 per 1,000 residents each year.
What is "violent crime?"
Violent crime consists of murder, sexual assault, robbery, and... standard(?) assault.
Your chance of being a victim of violent crime in Lubbock varies greatly from neighborhood to neighborhood with the eastern portions of the city being deemed the most dangerous and the southwest portions being the safest.
Crime Ain't Free, Ya Know?
In 2025, the total cost of crime for Lubbock was $135,287,424, according to Crime Grade. This comes to roughly $467 per resident.
If you're wondering where this dollar amount comes from, it's adding court costs, medical expenses, lost wages, and lost economic contributions from offenders in prison as a result of violent crimes.
Here's the breakdown of each violent offense in 2025 and how much it cost the city, on average:
- Murder - $73.6 million
- Rape and sexual assault - $19.3 million
- Robbery - $6.77 million
- Assault - $35.6 million
Most Common Lubbock Violent Crimes
The main reason why Lubbock received a D- in violent crime in 2025 is due to how common these offenses were.
For instance, assault was the most common violent crime affecting about 4.3 in every 1,000 residents. Rape came in second with 1.1 per 1,000 residents followed by robbery (0.74 per 1,000 residents) and murder (0.14 per 1,000 residents).
If it makes you feel any better, the City of Slaton also had a D- in violent crime for 2025. Oh yeah, and Wolfforth was barely any better with a D+. So hey, there's always a bright side... right?
