Lubbock Vehicle Theft Leads to Pursuit, Crash Into Restaurant
The Lubbock Police Department Major Crash Investigation Unit is investigating a crash that happened in the early mornings hours of Sunday, January 31st, 2021.
Reports indicate that police responded to a vehicle theft in progress at around 2:45 a.m. Minutes after being dispatched, an officer observed the stolen vehicle traveling eastbound on 34th Street near Avenue L.
The officer turned to try and initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle proceeded to evade.
It's said that the vehicle went through a parking lot on the southwest corner of 34th Street and Avenue A before colliding into a street lamp and fiber optic box.
Then, the vehicle continued southbound on Avenue A before turning eastbound into the 200 block of East 35th Street. After turning east, the vehicle collided into Los Tacos.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as 25-year-old Marquis Williams, proceeded to flee on foot. After a brief foot chase, he was arrested and transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center.
Williams has been charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Evading in a Vehicle, Evading Arrest, Resisting Arrest and Burglary of a Vehicle. He remains in the Lubbock County Detention Center on bonds totaling $30,000.
No injuries were reported from the crash.
