Teachers in Lubbock and across  the nation are turning to crowdfunding sites to cover or avoid all together out of pocket costs for projects, supplies and different opportunities for students in their classrooms.

One such website that's increased in popularity lately is called Donors Choose. Think of it as a GoFundMe but for teachers. Teachers post on the site the project or reason why they are raising money, and anyone can give. People in Lubbock, throughout Texas and across the world could have an impact on what students learn and how they learn this year.

Mrs. Crane, who teaches at Roosevelt High School, is attempting to raise $5,516 for her art students. She wants all her students to be able to build digital portfolios to be able to show their artwork and progress on.

Coming from rural backgrounds, many of my students do not have access to devices or internet access at home - so having these tools at school is vital for college preparation, art competitions, and documenting student growth.

This fundraiser will end on August 7th. As of the publication of this story, it still has $5,403 dollars to go.

Another example in Lubbock is Mrs. Dannemiller, who teaches at Willow Bend Elementary. She's attempting to raise money to remake her room into a Cozy Comfortable Classroom:

During independent work times, they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component of motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating.

This project has until August 26 to be funded and has three donors already, but needs $351 to meet the goal.

Other projects you can donate to include therapy dog supplies, a Musical Literacy Classroom Makeover, and Say It and See It...Read It...Write It, which is for handheld mirrors for students so they can see how their face looks when saying words.

You can see all the different projects listed by city or school at DonorsChoose.org.
