Lubbock Set to Host NJCAA D1 Women’s Basketball Championship
Big news for Lubbock and Lubbock Christian University as the NJCAA has announced that the 2016 NJCAA Women's Basketball Championship will be held in Lubbock.
The top 24 teams representing the women's junior college division will come to Lubbock, and by the time they depart a champion will have been crowned.
The tournament will be held at the Rip Griffin Center on the campus of Lubbock Christian University and will be hosted by Visit Lubbock. The festivities will be held in March from the 14th to the 19th.
“The tournament is one of the three most prestigious events within the NJCAA,” said South Plains College athletic director and tournament chairman Joe Tubb. “Because of the importance and popularity of women’s basketball to the South Plains area, I think Lubbock is the perfect host.”
The Kay Yow Cancer Fund will be the title sponsor for the event. Familiar face Marsha Sharp is on the Kay Yow Cancer Fund Board. “The Kay Yow Cancer Fund is really excited to have the opportunity to be part of the NJCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship,” Said Sharp.
