Almost exactly 1 year after the COVID-19 pandemic began, the City of Lubbock and other cities like it are starting to report infection rates similar to those reported at the very start of the crisis.
As of Wednesday, March 10, the City of Lubbock was only reporting 171 active cases of the virus in Lubbock County. Similarly, there are only 28 hospital patients currently being treated for COVID-19.
Texas Health and Human Services reports that all 22 hospital districts are reporting COVID hospitalization percentages below 10%, save for the El Paso region, which is currently at 11%. Texas Trauma Service Area B, which encompasses the South Plains, is reporting at just under 4%.
In tandem with lowering case counts, the state of Texas is also increasing its vaccine output. This week, the City of Lubbock received a total of 4,340 doses of the COVID-19; that's 600 Moderna doses, 2,340 Pfizer doses, and 1,400 doses of the new Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Here is a list of how many doses of the vaccine were sent to which locations in Lubbock:
- Lubbock Health Department: 2,340 Pfizer
- Community Health Center of Lubbock: 300 Moderna
- JD Healthcare 2: 300 Moderna
- Covenant Medical Center: 500 J&J
- University Medical Center: 500 J&J
- JPM Healthcare: 100 J&J
- Texas Tech Health Sciences Center: 100 J&J
- Cathy Malouf, MD: 100 J&J
Texas Health and Human Services has announced that those over the age of 50 will be eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine starting March 15th, 2021, as the first members of Phase 1C.
According to them, 93% of Texas fatalities directly caused by COVID-19 are people 50 years old and older. Those in Phase 1A and Phase 1B will continue to be eligible for the vaccine; that includes teachers and education staff.
