This story will just make you mad. A Lubbock postal worker has been indicted for stealing more than $700 in gift cards and checks.

According to our friends at KAMC, a federal indictment against Jeremy Dale Massingill includes two counts of Theft of Mail by a United States Postal Service Employee. The first count alleges Massingill stole a greeting card with $150, $50 in gift cards and a $20 bill.

Massingill also allegedly stole 15 other gift cards totaling $500 from various stores and restaurants, including Starbucks and Chick-fil-A. According to KAMC, if convicted, he will face up to 5 years in prison per count.

I do want to stress that Massingill is innocent until proven guilty. But if he is guilty, I say he be sent away for a long time.

This is the type of person that makes people hate and not trust the postal service. People expect privacy and for their gifts to loved ones to make it on time and safely. I can't help but think of how many checks or gift cards to kids from grandparents were stolen during this scheme.

Of course, most postal service employees seem to be good, hard-working employees who would never steal from their neighbors. But for some, it only takes one bad experience for them not to trust the mail.

Personally, we have had cards sent to our home from friends and family that never arrived. I've had family members who've stopped sending mail because it was their card that didn't make it to us.

And the USPS wonders why fewer and fewer people are using their services? If Massingill is guilty, lock him up for a while.
