The Lubbock Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding the owner of a Purple Heart medal, certificate, and several other WWII medals.

According to LPD Assistant Chief Greg Stevens, Property Room personnel found the medals and certificate earlier this week.  The Purple Heart and medals from WWII were awarded in 1943 to the family of a Navy sailor. The sailor, James Adkison, was killed on board the USS Arizona on December 7, 1941 during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

The items were dropped by a fleeing suspect during a failed burglary of a vacant house in 2000 and were placed in the Lubbock Police Department Property Room.  The burglary was never solved, and the items were never claimed.

Lubbock Police Department held a press conference Thursday afternoon to make the announcement and display the medals and awards.

Anyone with information concerning the medals can contact the Lubbock Police Department at (806) 775-2816.
