Lubbock Weather: Stunning 70-Degree Forecast for New Year’s

As a pure-bred northerner, I can't get enough of the colder temperatures and sometimes—believe it or not—West Texas delivers. If you're anything like me, then you also enjoyed the cooler weather on Monday. Unfortunately, that joy is short lived as we'll be right back up to the 70s by New Year's weekend. Yaaaay...

Warmer Temps Hitting West Texas This Week

Each year we roll the dice on whether we'll see snow in Lubbock. This year, not only did we see ZERO SNOW all December, but the temperatures are set to rise right back up to remind us that we do indeed still live in West Texas.

Looking at the forecast from the National Weather Service, a storm front is gracing our slice of Texas with wintry precipitation. In fact, some portions of the southwestern South Plains will actually see snow! Will Lubbock? Nope!

Lubbock's Forecast for New Year's

Tuesday and Wednesday are set to reach the mid to low 60s. This isn't too bad for New Year's Eve partiers looking to stay out late.

When we look at Thursday (New Year's) and Friday, we see the numbers rise with highs in the low 70s. The trend keeps going into the weekend, so don't think we'll get a break after this week of hot temps.

Oh, and zero chance of rain all week, can't forget about that.

On This Day in Lubbock...

For those that remember, on December 29, 2009, Lubbock got hit with a second winter storm in just one week accumulating up to four inches of snowfall in certain parts of West Texas.

Multiple wrecks resulted from the hazardous road conditions and one death occurred on this day in Lubbock 16 years ago.

Where were you when Winter Storm Uri hit Texas the week of February 14th and 15th 2021?

The country was already dealing with the COVID crisis and then came another one.

According to weather.com, the storm produced damaging ice from the Northwest.

Texas Cities like Abilene and San Angelo had record snowfall. Beating records that were made back in the late 1800s.

In Austin a record 6.4 inches of snow was recorded at Austin - Bergstrom Airport, their heaviest snow in 72 years, since Jan. 30, 1949.

San Antonio had almost 3 inches of snow bringing them their heaviest snowfall since 1985, those nice people art Seaworld also saw 6 inches of snowfall.

Locally here in the Killeen- Temple area, streets, schools, and businesses were shut down and there were massive power outages. Not to mention a certain electric company going out of business due to the rates of customers skyrocketing!

It was a disaster!

But here we are a year later, we now have stories we can tell our grandkids about how the effects of Winer Storm Uri of 2021 had us all in a frenzy.
