Lubbock Man Sentenced to 13 Years in Prison for Manslaughter
A Lubbock man was sentenced on Wednesday (Oct. 3) to 13 years in state prison for manslaughter.
KAMC News reports that in August 2017, Lubbock police officer were called to the scene of a one-vehicle crash in the 1900 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Thirty-one-year-old Michael Hastings was driving a vehicle with one passenger, Charles Smith. Hastings attempted to speed past another car, but hit a utility pole and a tree, resulting in a wreck that killed Smith.
Later, police discovered alcohol was also a factor in the crash.
