Lubbock Man Arrested for Murder with Garden Shears
59 year-old, Lewis Ray Young, was arrested Monday night (March 21) for the murder of 79 year-old Conrado Sarate and Parole Violation. Young is being held at the Lubbock County Detention Center in lieu of a $250,000 bond.
KAMC News reports that on September 6, 2016, LPD were called to Sarate's residence, located in the 2100 block of Avenue P, to check on his health. When police arrived, they found Sarate lying on the floor next to a bed with bloody wounds on his body and head.
After examining the wounds on the body, police determined that Sarate had been killed with garden shears.
Police questioned Young about the crime, but he denied knowing anything about it.
However, six month later, in March of this year, DNA testing on the murder weapon provided authorities with new information. Young's DNA was found on the garden shears and he confessed to the murder after being questioned by police.
No trial date has been set for Young.
