During yesterday’s board meeting, Lubbock ISD trustees approved a $6.2 million purchase of technology, appropriated from the 2010 Bond. The funds will be used to purchase new computers, laptops and printers for student and teacher use. $3.8 million in bond funding was appropriated to the purchase of security items, such as automatic lock doors, video surveillance cameras and employee badging systems.

Unrelated to bond issues, trustees recognized Amy Rhoads and Nancy Cooper as the 2011 Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the year. Rhoads, who was also selected as the Region 17 Teacher of the Year, will be recognized in an awards ceremony in Austin. Hon Furniture provided both teachers with a new set of  classroom furniture and ARAMARK provided them with a monetary award.

Waiver requests were also approved, allowing 22 classes to exceed the 22:1 student-teacher ratio. Finally, the name change for Dunbar Middle School was ratified, and will be changed to the Dunbar College Preparatory Academy.
